Terms of service

These terms apply when you use the Editor Scout website or engage Editor Scout to source an editor. Questions? Email hello@editorscout.com.
Enquiries are free
Submitting a project brief is a free enquiry. It does not create a contract, start a search, reserve an editor or take payment. We may decline an enquiry if we don't think we can help.
The service
If we agree to a paid engagement, we will:
- clarify your requirements and prepare a structured brief;
- research and review relevant editors;
- aim to present two or three suitable, available editors with comparable written quotes, where feasible;
- help coordinate one paid trial with an editor you choose.
Before any paid work starts, we confirm by email the scope, the fee and a target delivery date for the search.
When the search is complete
The search is complete when we have presented at least two suitable, available editors with written quotes that match the agreed brief, or a smaller number that you accept in writing. A single candidate does not complete a two-candidate search unless you agree to it.
Fees
The sourcing fee is $149 USD, one time, unless a different fee is agreed in writing. Editing fees and trial fees are separate. You agree them with, and pay them directly to, the editor.
Once the scope and target date are confirmed, we email you a secure payment link. Payments are processed by Stripe. Any sales tax or VAT that applies is shown at checkout.
Your relationship with editors
You choose, contract with and pay any editor directly. Editors are independent. They are not our employees, agents or partners. We do not guarantee an editor's availability, quality of work, performance or results, and we are not a party to your agreement with them.
No guaranteed outcomes
We do our best to find a strong fit, but we do not promise a perfect match, audience growth or views.
Your right to withdraw (consumers)
If you are a consumer in the EU, you can withdraw from a paid engagement within 14 days of agreeing to it, without giving a reason, by emailing us. We only start the search within those 14 days if you ask us to in writing. If you withdraw after asking us to start, we may keep a proportionate amount for the work already done. Once the search is complete within the 14 days, the right to withdraw ends if you were told this in advance.
Cancellation and refunds
If you change your mind:
- before the search starts, we refund the sourcing fee in full;
- after it starts but before it is complete, we refund the fee less a fair amount for the work already done.
If we don't deliver: if we cannot complete the search as defined above by the agreed target date, or within a further period you agree to, you can cancel and we refund the sourcing fee in full.
Once the search is complete, the sourcing fee is non-refundable. Trial and editing fees are between you and the editor. Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights.
Your content
You keep all rights to your footage and materials. You confirm you have the right to share any links or materials you send us, and you allow us to share relevant project details with editors for quoting.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any engagement is limited to the sourcing fee you paid us for it. We are not liable for the work, conduct or delays of independent editors. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that cannot be excluded by law.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Croatia. Disputes will be heard by the competent courts in Croatia.
If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of mandatory consumer laws in the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of that country where the law gives you that right.
Changes
We may update these terms. The version in force when you confirm an engagement applies to that engagement.
